on pain
Violin = massive neck and shoulder pain. Need to find a really good teacher who can help with my posture, not just a professional player who teaches in their spare time. Once I have that sorted, I think there’ll be room for improvement.  I think that when I was growing I developed some poor habits, and I need to get out of them.  I hope this marks the start of something that will get...

Welcome to my Mind.: Eight years in the making.... →
thebestofusareinsane: I remember the phone call my best friend and I had for at least three hours about how excited we were to start learning how to play a violin when we were in year two. We talked about how we’ve always dreamed of playing it and how we “remember” hearing someone play a violin, which from then on, it… I’m scared of this. I haven’t played in years because I...

What Really Happened in that Double-Blind Violin... →
sigmastolen: Laurie Niles, a participating violinist, discusses the methods and meaning of this widely-reported study.  She writes pointedly, If people are concluding from this study that “professional violinists can’t tell the difference between modern violinist and old Italians,” then I think we need a different study in which violinists are actually asked to identify that. Niles also...

Whitlams
There really is a dearth of Whitlams violin on youtube. As in I could barely find any. And none of the songs I’d expect, like Blow Up the Pokies. I might try and work it out. MAYBE.  As a side note The Whitlams are one of my favourite bands ever. They have beautiful stuff. Piano rock :D

Stress
Yesterday, when I was in the violin shop, the guy adjusting my instrument mentioned that violin was a ‘stressful’ instrument.  I grew up finding most schoolwork fairly easy, and when confronted with violin, I found a huge challenge. This was not helped by my first teacher Norma (oh I remember her well) who I played with for roughly..3-4 years? They were group lessons, theory and...

First post - starting out
I’ve made this blog to collect everything about practical music. I’ve mirrored this post from my personal blog, tumblr.com/andariel-axe. There you will find photos (some NSFW) of things that interest or entertain me.  Here you’ll find blogging about my personal relationship with music (I’m less of a ponce than you think, I promise), things I find interesting or...
